The International Space Station passing near the almost full moon this morning at 6:30am. You can just make out the solar arrays. I think if I'd been maybe a mile east of here it would have transited the moon's disk.

How technology has changed in 40 years! Can you imagine doing this in 1975? How long would it have taken, and how much would it have cost? Film or video?

My cost was $25 and an existing Windows 7 laptop, Windows Live essentials includes Movie Maker. A half day of playing and shooting video, and a few hours to edit. Fun!

Seems like you could get some grant funding and buy every kid in a classroom a laptop and one of these, give them an hour of instruction and then just turn them loose.....

North American River Otters playing on our dock in St. Petersburg, FL.

Manatees munching on what appears to be Seaside Purslane (Sesuvium portulacastrum) and St. Augustine grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum) in the canals of Riviera Bay (St. Petersburg, FL).

The second manatee shown eating St. Augustine (at around 0:28) is a calf, so I'm assuming the larger Manatee is its mother.

Manatees often give birth in our canals, please be cautious when operating powerboats in the area!

This tornado or waterspout formed on 6/24/13 almost directly over our house! It drifted overhead from NE to SW in the general vicinity of 96th ave and 2nd street, finally dissipated.

Another Monarch chrysalis hatching out, this one went better than the other one!
